Back in Athens

my tour is over...i'll be staying in Athens at a hostel until wednesday when my flight leaves for san francisco. Later we are going to go to the archaeological museum and then possibly to a turkish bath before dinner. Tomorrow we are going to spend the whole day at the beach. call me if you want any info about my trip on thursday or later....

Greece

ummm, I dont know when the last time was that i posted, but greece has been crazy and internet is expensive and i usually dont have time. Right now i'm sitting on the cruise ship, about 10 o clock at night, just finished dinner after coming back from mykonos, first island on teh cruise. left athens this morning. let me start from where i left off:

we got to greece from the ferry, found a hostel from one of the clerks at the train station and crashed for most of the evening. found a nice spot for dinner, with a supern ice guy who helped us find our way around athens. Next day, we found our way to our hotel where the contiki tour was starting, checked in, and then wandered around athens for the rest of the day. did some laundry, ate some food, did some shopping, and relaxed for a bit. the tour started that evening, went out to dinner wiht some of the people, right by the acropolis (i will show pictures when i get back), adn then came back to the hotel to sleep.

next day, up bright and early, left the hotel for the acorpolis. visited there, the temple of athena, and then continued on to...hmmm, i dont remember. i will need to look at pictures. anyways, the last four days we visited delphi, where the temple to apollo was, and olympus, where the first olympic games were played. both were amazing. once we were back in athens we had the night to ourselves before hte cruise, so a few of us took a bus to the temple of posoiden and we watched the sunset behind the structure. it was absolutely beautiful.

my itenerary for the next few days is turkey tomorrow morning to a local bazaar, then patras, the next day is crete, and finally santorini on monday where i booked an exursion to sail to a volcanic island, climb to the top, and then bask int eh wonderfulness of natural hot springs and mud baths. coming back down we'll sail back to the isalnd and take a donkey ride up the cliffs to the actual city. after that we sail back to athens where i am staying for an extra 2 nights ina hostel before my flight leaves on wednesday.

anyways, i will post picturs when i can once i am back. i've taken 400 or so so far, so be prepared.

Greek toilets= not awesome =( you cant flush toilet paper here, so they always smell of poopy toilet paper from the garbage.

The Amalfi Coast

So...we left castelfiorentino at somepoint in the last 3 or 4 days...they are all blending together at this point...to go to the amalfi coast. amazing! so beautiful...except for teh freakin bus ride on teh cliffs of death and my motion sickness. went to pompei, saw some dead guys and ruins...also freakin amazing. i've been meeting lots of people along the way, australians (lots!), britains, texans, new zealanders, and a group of girls from the pharoa (sp?) islands, between iceland and scotland. so far everything has been working out great, traveling sucks, but the sights have been amazing. somehow i ended up sleeping on the deck of a ferry last night with 4 australians and the three pharoain islanders on a metal surface. Once we got to greece we had to fine someplace to stay so we wondered around and asked someone at the train station and luckily found a hostel not to far off that wasnt booked. our actual tour starts tomorrow, so it will be nice to not have to plan our travel, food, and such anymore. also it's freakin hot. like super hot...100 degree if not more weather. i might sweat off 10 pounds before i come home. anyways, it's 8:30 here in greece and i havent slept in a good 40 hours at this point so i am going to head to bed. if you want a more in depth, steinback type approach to our trip, visit lacy's blog: bloggingthrougheurope.blogspot.com. she is very into detail.

Tuscany

Just finished with Venice, in Castelfiorentino, which is between Florence and Sienna. Going to go to florence tomorrow and then do dinner in sienna. After that we are going to be traveling to the Amalfi coast and Capri.

So far Venice was fun, kind of touristy like pier 39, but Tuscany I am loving so far. dinner tonight was amazing..I had ravioli with walnut sauce and artichokehearts with this pepper seasoning and tomatoes. it was delicious, i took pictures and will be posting them when i can. also, no one checked my train ticket today so i get an extra day on the train now.

Venice

I arrived in Venice, after 20 hours of not sleeping , found :Lacy after getting lost for a bit, and then stayed out until 8 pm (my flight got in at 9 am) because lacy made me. It is day two now and so far i've wandered around venice all morning, went to St. Marco Square, saw a cool church, went to some gardens, and then to the Guggenheim museum (where I saw mondrian, kandinsky, pollock, picasso, o'keefe, etc. it was amazing!) Now I am off to the Jewish ghetto and some night life in Venice, then off to florence tomorrow afternoon.
